The LIGHT shines

Let’s start from a place of peace, reminding ourselves of whose we are and who we are.

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

9The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognise him. 11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

Here at Dignity we are working out what the spread of COVID-19 means for the work of Impact Teams and Life Groups, and our work to support the church by sharing our learning and models. In the immediate term, our work of pioneering Life Groups in new areas needs to pause, simply to avoid travel.

However, our pioneering spirit will not stop!

Over the last year we have been investing time and effort in understanding how to support and empower local people at great distance. Discussions are taking place about how we continue and even grow our work online, how teams can support Life Groups at distance and how Life Groups can safely support communities right where they are and as they are ideally positioned to do.

1 Corinthians 13:13 says:

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Please will you hold us in prayer over the coming weeks?

  • Faith: We want to use our resources wisely and position ourselves well to support those we work alongside. We believe that God can and will use Dignity in this situation.
  • Hope: Starting from a place of faith, we want to do what we can with what we have been given and hope that God does the rest! This is not a faint hope, this is a firm secure hope in Jesus, the light of the world.
  • Love: Life Groups have always been about creating community, speaking and learning about truth together and showing love to those around us. At this time, we want to encourage the Life Group movement to live well and love others whilst worshipping Jesus. We will be working together to help people discover what God given role they can take.

As our plans are distilled in the coming days, we will share ways in which you can stand with Life Groups as they care for their neighbours.

In the meantime, we highly recommend the prayer resources 24-7 prayer have put together. You can find them online here and even sign up to their 24-7 virtual prayer room!

Praying that you will see the Light of the World in these days,

Jon, Jo and everyone at Dignity!
