Alison, Keith & Becky’s Story
Alison and Keith were inspired by the Life Group leaders they met when they visited Zambia in 2019. They launched a Life Group at home in Wales just as COVID-19 lockdowns hit the UK. Starting with a few friends, they lead one another through Dignity’s Foundations course. The group grew and people they had never met in person joined it.
When looking to reconnect with God but struggling to find a local church, Keith’s sister Becky joined the group. Her children started coming with her, bringing with them friends from school and their families. Becky says she has a real sense of hope that God is moving in this simple style of church, likening it to the early church.
The group have welcomed individuals from different churches, seen people come to know Jesus for the first time, supported young people to start their own gatherings and share faith with their friends, started a craft group for those on the periphery of the group and helped a lady who has moved away to think about starting a Life Group in her new village. Together, the group are working out how they can plant a second group.
Mark & Jennie’s Story
Inspired by time volunteering with Dignity, the stories of Life Groups and informed by our resources, Mark and Jennie planted a Life Group in their Miami community and are amazed by what God is doing as a result. A few months after the group began, 16 adults were coming along regularly. They feel that God has been bringing people to them and moving in the lives of the individuals they are meeting with. Inspired by what they were seeing, friends from their church have planted two more Life Groups to reach their own communities. This has surprised and excited Mark and Jennie.
The couple have a growing heart for the needs of the migrant and displaced populations of Columbia. It’s a complex picture, with many internally displaced people as well as Venezuelans passing through Columbia en route to the U, some of whom settle in the country itself. Mark and Jennie feel that Life Groups could be a great way to mobilise the church to reach these people and help them connect with the migrant populations around them.
