Here, Cornelius (who today is meeting the Archbishop of Canterbury btw) tells us how practical care in Musonda got started.
“I came up with the idea of helping the elderly around the Musonda area in this year 2011. We decided we would try and supply cassava, mealiemeal and maize. It has given us great joy to see this start happening in our area. We see smiles of joy from those who are not priveleged when the Life! Group member helps them.
Each member of the Life! Group has to contribute some cassava or maize. We also try and cover the costs of grinding that maize to make it into mealie meal. We can then give people something.
The idea came from the lessons in the resource, “Love Your Village”. As well as learning about our faith, we have to be practical in our care for one another in the village. The time to do this is when we are living, not when we are dead!
It is lovely to see more people coming in and being involved in doing practical action. We are all from different walks of life, different groups, and we come to the Life! Groups meetings but are also involved in our community”
