Transforming Communities in Kapiri Mposhi
Dignity’s Life Groups model creates a space for members of a community to engage on their own terms. People gather in small groups, and communities are empowered to take responsibility and feel ownership. This contributes to their resilience and growth. Because Life Groups gather regularly and are small and locally led, connections within them deepen. In this way, they can address community needs and provide on-going discipleship in a way that traditional church structures sometimes struggle to achieve.
Meet Samuel...
Samuel Zulu, a leader in an Anglican church in Kapiri Mposhi, has had a longstanding involvement with Life Groups.
“It’s clear to me that this model provides an accessible and sustainable approach to faith,” he says. “I’ve seen it transform local communities. People see the positive effects of these groups without necessarily associating them with a specific church. The Life Groups approach can complement the work of the traditional church. It’s about creating ways for faith to be part of everyday life.”
With his encouragement, six groups in the Chalata area of Mkushi are now thriving. The community-oriented Life Group model has already begun to transform local faith landscape. By being an accessible and inclusive part of the community, the programme is demonstrating the power of faith to transform.
Samuel is national chaplain of the Boys’ Brigade in Zambia, and although plans are still taking shape. Working together with the Boys’ Brigade presents a valuable opportunity for Dignity to support Samuel’s vision to connect with young people. His aim is to instill life skills and spiritual values in youth so that they may work together on faith-based, local projects.
“We’re looking at how this partnership could develop,” Samuel says. “We hope a collaboration with Dignity may build a generation who are equipped to take the Life Group ethos to their own communities.”
You can follow in Samuel's footsteps...
Looking forward, Dignity has several strategies designed to broaden its reach. Central to this is the Everyone Everywhere Everyday initiative, a series of events to be held across various regions next year. The events are designed to inspire, equip, and encourage everyday people to reach and serve those around them with the love of Jesus. This event is not just for leaders—it’s for everyone, living everywhere, every day! This event is typically hosted by local friends and leaders with a passion for community mission.
Samuel has started something where he is. Is God asking you to do the same? If so, we'd love to help you take the first steps. Find out more about Everyone Everywhere Everyday or contact us for an initial conversation: hello@dignityonline.org.uk.
